So Capt. Cheese started another one. This is my list of of my top 5 favorite/fun/interesting cards from a TCG/CCG.

5. *insert title here* - World of Warcraft TCG - This card is coming out in the next expansion and I can't spoil it yet. I will update this post when it has been revealed.

4. Wormhole -Star Trek CCG- I used this card to grief many opponents in Star Trek CCG 1st Edition. They often found their crew/ship at the Montana Missile Complex.

3. Howling Mine - Magic:TheGathering- Simple, elegant card design and a strong game effect. It has been a favorite of mine for years.

2. More Than Meets the Eye - Star Trek CCG 2nd Edition - This was the first card that I ever "officially" designed in my game design career that was printed. It wasn't the best card in the set, probably not even a "good" card, but it was my first and you always remember your first.

1. Droid Merchant - Star Wars CCG - This card almost single handedly jump my "TCG" career ahead 5 years. And it was probably the most fun I've ever had playing a deck.

New Hire

This actually happened last week, but I waited a bit for it to be official.

I was hired on officially by Upper Deck this past Monday. I am an Associate Game Designer. A bit of a step down from Lead Game Design at The Company, but this is a bigger company and more room for advancement, so I'm willing to start out on the ground floor, etc.

I'm pretty happy and official now. For those of you that knew I had an issue, I will be posting a copy of my business card as soon as I get them. And I'll make sure to give Scott G. a couple copies, you know...for all those that he lent me over the years.

Marnie's sister, Megan and her husband Craig are proud parents of a beautiful new baby girl. Her name is Addisyn. She was born this morning at 4:21am and was 8 pounds 4 ounces.

This movie kicked so much ass I don't even know where to begin. There is plenty of blood, boobs, more blood, action, honor, and pride.

I definitely will see this movie more than once this year.

I'm excited already. I think Mark Wahlberg would make a great Duke. The thing that I'm concerned about is the "prequal"ness of the proposed plot. I hope there will be plenty of action, with just a little bit of scheming.

I finished watching all the seasons of Oz on Netflix so now I am going to make my way through my que.

First up is Thank You for Not Smoking. I really enjoyed this movie. I think it was mostly because I have thought about what it would be like to be a lobbyist. I like to think that I have the moral flexability to defend pretty much anything and I have been told, in the past, that I am not a bad salesman.

I think this also might make it into my top 100 movie list, I enjoyed it that much.

Rich Get Richer

Well, I'd be lying if I said this season's theme didn't intrigue me. I am still waiting for that stereotypical, underdog, despite all odds win from Ravu, but it hasn't come yet. Moto still continues to wreck shop, despite having Papa Smurf barely making it.

Which brings me to the next point. I have no sympathy for people who aren't mentally or physically prepared for this game. That whiny Emo chick that had to leave, well, maybe she shouldn't have come in the first place. I realize the guy that fell in the fire had to be medivac'ed out, so I don't bare any ill will towards him, but Papa Smurf, that's a different story. Yes, you are older. Did you prepare for this show? I mean, I don't think I would go on the show unless I had some preparations going in so I wouldn't have health problems, etc. Maybe it's from the cracked rib when he fell on the slippery stuff...who knows. The medical team didn't find anything wrong with him.

As for picking a horse, I don't feel comfortable yet. I can tell you it's not going to be Rocky. That guy is waay to cocky and arrogant to make it far in this game. Right now I'm leaning towards Alex or Mookie.

I have been watching this movie quite a bit lately because it has been on one of the movie channels and it's better than some chickflick on the other movie channels.

This movie is pretty dang funny. Other than the gratutious drug references and actual scenes of smoking pot, this movie will probably crack my top 100 list. The main reason being is that the main character works as..get this...a game designer. He works for a fictious company called Brainasium. There are a lot of similarities in this movie to a number of people that I work with or have worked with in the past.

I laugh everytime I watch it and thoroughly enjoy it. I'll let you try and guess who I think is who from the movie.

The Hills at night

So...if you know me, you know I have an issue with scary movies. I mean, when I was younger, I was scared to death every time the Thriller video would come on. And then V hit and they ate the Guinea Pigs and I lost it. So we fast forward to today. It's 12:30am. I should be asleep, instead I just finished up grinding to 3/4 of the way through 64 (longest...level....ever). I figured I would unwind with a movie, I scroll through the movie channels and find, the Hills Have Eyes. I knew I should have kept on scrolling.

I watched it....all of it. A buddy of mine gave a review on it and he was pretty spot on about most of it. The dropping of the gun next to the "dead" bad guy was terrible. I actually thought it was the married sister who seemed to be the level headed one was going to be the survivor. The blowing away of the mother, the fire scene, the dude waking up after taking one in the head were all pretty good "holy freaking crap" scenes. The rest of it was pretty predictible. I don't think it was as bad as Mr. Heimlich's...err sorry, Dr. Heimlich (Yea I know you didn't go to years of doctor school to be referred as mister) assessment.

Speaking of which, I don't think I would have been able to sit down and watch this movie (despite my heart beating out of my chest) without the expertise of Kyle/Evan. They sat me down in October a couple years ago and it was " a scary movie a night". This was the first time I've seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, etc.

Freaking Quasimoto

So imagine if you will, the pain you feel when someone punches you really hard in the arm. It stings and then eventually goes away. It makes your arm feel like dead weight in the interim. Now...imagine someone does that to the top of your foot, but it doesn't go away. It just continues to feel like dead weight and you don't want to move it because if you do in the slightest, it will be very very painful. So you have to practically drag your foot behind you for fear of actually bending at a joint and passing out from pain.

That's pretty much what it feels like to have the gout.

First Loss

Well it had to come sometime or another. I finally lost at the credit card game. This is a new game I have learned while living in California and working with a bunch of gamers. This bunch of gamers is different than the last bunch that I worked with, not necessarily better, just a bigger game.

So the way this game works, is you have a bill after eating. The more people, the bigger the bill. Each person that wants to play needs to pitch in a credit card. A person shuffles up the credit cards and holds them out of sight and someone picks a number. That number in the rotation is safe, so that credit card is given back to the person and he or she isn't paying. For instance, if 3 is picked, the person with the cards counts off from the top of the stack until he hits the third card. You repeat the process until there is only 1 card left and that person picks up the tab.

I'm a gambling man, so this game really appealed to me. Up until yesterday, I had never lost and to be sure, I was getting pretty filthy with my bids. Last week, we had Sushi Taisho. My bill was about 6 bones and the entire thing was like $120+ because someone got dirrty with the rolls (Kibler). I had horrible odds, but there were like 4 people that gamed it and I was feeling good about my odds. I didn't have to pick it up, Kibler ended up taking it home. Yesterday, we went to the sports bar and after some gaming of BR and I (I broke even, I had Detroit and 8 points, they lost by 12+ and he had GS and 1 point for the first quarter), the bill came. Ant and Gary didn't want to game so I heads up'd it with BR. I lost and that was the first time that I had lost the credit card game.

It's pretty fun, I didn't feel bad losing because I'm still up. Silly gamers and their big games.

My thoughts go out

...to a loved one. I recently had a loved one fall ill of http://www.bellspalsy.ws/. He/she is doing ok and has seen a doctor about it. The doctor is optimistic that he'll/she'll recover in a couple weeks because he/she saw a physician so early in the process (evidently people wait a day or two to see if it clears up itself). It is not life threatening (that we know of).

He/she has to wear an eye patch though, which is kinda humorous. I hope he/she gets better and my thoughts go out to him/her.

2007 is here and I tried something new

So since I have been working at Upper deck, I have been to http://www.sushitaisho.signonsandiego.com/1.html just once. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki bowl and was pretty closed minded about the Sushi. My standing was that it had a lot of vegtables and I was probably going to choke on the seaweed.

Fast forward to today. We all head to Sushi Taisho for lunch. I get the chicken teriyaki bowl and start eyeing Kibler's roll when it shows up. I talk to Danny about it and I decide that I am ready to go and give it a try.

I had the following -

Zig Zag RollSpicy snow crab soft shell crab avocado & cream cheese wrapped in soy paper and a Ninja RollSpicy tuna double-wrapped seaweed lightly fried in panko and dressed w/eel sauce. Just a couple pieces of each. Not to shabby, I am looking forward to the next time we go.

Dirt Bikes and cahwazy drivers

So I came back to Cali yesterday. It's roughly a 5 and a half hour drive and I have done it plenty of times now that I have the quickest way (actually through Maricopa to the 8, not out the 10 to the 85 to the 8).

Upon my trips, I go by the sand dunes right outside of Yuma...twice. Once going to AZ and then coming back. Since I tend to travel during peak travel times, there is a lot of "dune traffic". I have an opinion about who these types of people are (yes, I am one to jump to quick assumptions about stereotypes). They drive these big RVs, toying a rack of bikes/4-wheelers/golf carts that are jackedup 6+ inches with mag wheels on them. They also drive them like they are the pickup trucks.

One in particular. It was a newer SUV. It cut me off coming on the highway from Gordon's Well. I was going at a pretty quick clip. I get over in the fast lane and let him on with no issues, but then he swerves into my lane almost immediately. I slam on my breaks and swerve into the other lane. Thankfully there was no one there. He pulls up along side of me, his buddy laughs at me and flips me off. I speed up to get away from them and they speed up. I slow down and they keep on going.

I curse them, but then I'm ok, they are gone and I'm back on the straight and narrow back to Cali. I pick them up again coming off an El Centro on ramp. They don't do anything this time, but there is another white Mitsubishi Galant keeping up with me and we blow by the SUV. He doesn't give chase until the hills (right around the Golden Acorn). He's playing cat and mouse with traffic and not getting anywhere. Traffic starts to get heavier than it already was and then it happened. He cuts of the Galant in front of me and slams on his breaks (to the point of smoke). The Galant in front of me does the same and I do the same, he and I have to swerve left into the rumble-bumps in order to miss the SUV. There was no traffic in front of the SUV. I almost lost my lunch. I was going to get out of the car but the SUV sped away. The Galant and I gave chase. The SUV exited and the Galant in front of me followed it. I hope he kicked the crap out of them.

They had a sticker on the back of the window that said "Desert Rats like it dirty". I hate Dirt bikers.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE

First off, I did something very stupid tonite. After about a half an hour lying awake at a friend's house, I drove home....after a fair bit of drinking. To be honest, this was probably a mistake in my judgement. I made it home and I'm ok and I was probably the soberest of people on the road. I drank a bunch of water/soda before I snuck out.

As for my last post of 2o06, the year was certainly interesting. I found a new job, same career. Something that I love doing and I think that I'm not too shabby at (even though some other people think that I'm not good at it). I am still married and I love my wife Marnie and our two dogs. But let's not look at the past, let's look to the future.

In the coming days, I will be posting interviews of people some people that I know and that know me (friends and family). I did a bit of camera work over the break. Did a couple of interviews and I am going to post them to my blog along with what I think/feel about the person. I didn't get a chance to do everyone that I would have liked to do, but it is an ongoing project and I hope to continue it, especially for people that I haven't had a chance to get that I should absolutely interview before our time is up.

Pursuit of a Quicker Movie

A couple of buddies and I went and saw Pursuit of Happyness last night. After getting over the fact that I haven't been to see a movie in awhile and price of admission here is $9.75, I settled in to watch what I felt was a feel good story.

I wasn't disappointed. Will Smith's character keeps getting knocked down left and right and he keeps pursuing his dream. There are some inconsistencies in the movie, but I guess they had to fudge some stuff in order to embellish some of the miracle. It was rather long or the pacing was off, one of those is true.

I think Will Smith and the boy who played his son both did a good job in the acting department. There were a few heart wrenching scenes.

Although, I don't know why he just didn't go and get a job at a fast food place, I mean if he was really that poor, there are ways to make money.


NOTE - if you are in the Westfield Mall at Plaza Camino Real, don't tell someone to meet you in front of Macy's. Evidently there are two of them.

Originally, when I read this, I thought that it was a pretty cheap way of getting out of actually naming someone. However, I read the entire article and read a couple other pieces about the story (including viewing some photoshopped pictures of there being porn on the guy's monitor). I think that it's a good choice. There have been a lot of contributions via the Web and new businesses/ideas sprouting up left and right. Most of the time the people are being seen and heard of because of the World Wide Web.

So revel in your new found celebrity, I know I will.

Finally watched it

I finally caught this movie on one of the movie channels tonite. I had some thoughts about this movie like everyone else, but I would like to think that I am more open minded than that. When this movie started I thought the pace was going to be rather slow. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was. This movie made me feel something, I don't know the exact feelings that it invoked, but I definitely had some sort of thoughts going on. I can see why it was nominated for the awards. Both actors did a fine job.

I got to play some board games last night. Well, it was just one board game. Me, TBS, YIP, and JeffLui all played a couple games of Ra (after some hardcore NBA Live07 action).

I ran the dirt route of old and that did me well in game 1 and I took it home (well that and a full arc of schtuff when there was only 1 head spot left). Game 2 I didn't do to well, there was no water and my 9 dirt were left hanging in the 3rd arc.

It was good to be gaming again. I can't wait to bust out the Puerto Rico, I've been jonsing.

PTQ it is...

So I decided to PTQ it up, for those of you that might not know what that is, here's a little break down.

PTQ stands for Pro Tour Qualifer. It is a qualifying event for an upcoming Magic:theGathering Pro Tour event. The qualifier today was for Pro Tour Geneva happening some time next year. If a person wins, they get a paid plane ticket there and an invite.

The event today is being held at the Coasta Mesa Women's Club where most of LA's PTQs have been held since...well, forever. There were 108 players, I finished 5-2 and that was good enough for 11th place.

I was handed a Foil Jaya, Plague Sliver, Treskavus, double Grapeshot, double Rift Bolt and some dudes. I made the mistake of running 6 blue cards instead of just the Ephramon and the Kracken. I think the Ancestral was calling to me and I wasn't disciplined enough to say no. I boarded into 4 more solid r/b dudes during games 2 and 3. I made a play error that cost me the match in my first lost and just got run over for my second match.

I got 9 packs for being "first runner up billy prize" and the Jaya can probably net me around 20 beans on teh ebay.

Not too bad, I've learned from the mistakes I made.

Weekend Plans?

Here is a list of possible things that I should/could this weekend -

- Get the oil changed - the tires also need to be rotated, I'm about 1k miles over the time that I should have gotten it changed and it might be good because it's getting chilly in SoCal.

- PTQ it - there is a PTQ Geneva this weekend in LA at Coasta Mesa. A buddy of mine is planning on going and I was thinking about hitting it up. I dig me a limited PTQ event, especially since I'm aspiring to be a better Magic player.

- Level Geewon - He is my Tauren Druid on Anvilmar. I have a buddy who plays there (different buddy) and with the sort of dis-assembling of BlakOgre Clan, I kinda have some free time in WoW.

- Clean mah room - it is in bad need of a good cleaning. It doesn't stink or anything, but there are like 27490948 Propel bottles strewn about the place.

- Do nothing - yep, as usual, do absolutely nothing, just watch the netflix that came (a hot husband/wife spy comedy, a boat capsizing, a story about how there is a map on the back of the declaration of independence). So exiciting.

All of them have their negatives as well (bored waiting for car to get done, having connection issues still with WoW, kind of a long drive to Coasta Mesa, cleaning requires effort, etc).

I think the front runner is going to the PTQ. We'll see...

Girard goes to GenCon Socal 2006

Disclaimer: This post might seem pompous at times, but none of it is directed at anyone or anyone's company specifically.

We win Gracie, we win. - Harry Stamper - Armageddon.

This is my first SoCal event and it was pretty small (compared to the other conventions I've been to). I haven't conned in over a year and I got wrecked physically. So I wanted to apologize to the guys that I was supposed to go out and have fun with, I just couldn't move after each day.

UDE's tournament area was full all weekend. The Dragon was slayed just once, but there was a steady stream of competitors looking to take her down. There were 26 more people in the Beginner's Sealed Deck than the Dream Machine Challenge. The place was packed and soo much new blood in the industry. The Vs. Pro Circuit still had a healthy amount of people (same number as last year) and Yu gi oh had like 600+. World of Warcraft TCG was the talk of the convention and everyone that I talked to loved it. It was cool to see people continue to tweak their decks to try and beat Onyxia.

It was good to see everyone that I did; Evan, Beal, Seth and his crew, Trevor, Peiper, Schoe, Ray, Kelly, Adam, Mr. Bond, Bits. It was not good to see Charles Hickey, that guy is an ass.

They spoiled on IMDB who the actor is that is playing Sylar. I must say that I don't think I have ever seen this actor ever play a good guy. It is debatable if he is evil in a movie that came out a couple years ago where there was a tcg based on said movie.

now that you've stopped laughing. I was promised some big stuff this week and I got a Sylar Jedi Mind Trick, a not-so-dead waitress, a "suggestive" hot chick, the "good" side of the dad and a missing Hiro. It was pretty full of stuff, but I'm not as keen on the Mohinder part of the story I guess.

Next week, we get to save the cheerleader and in turn, save the world....OR DO WE??!??!?!?!

FOX Sunday Lineup

A lot of times this lineup is just a bunch of cartoons that try to hard, but tonite...it was pretty much outstanding.

The Simpsons - Had a trailer for the new movie, sorry, it was a teaser. It was a funny teaser though.

American Dad - I thought the 2 Fast 2 Furious joke was pretty damn funny. I remember having street racing days in high school. That and they spoofed up World of Warcraft without having to pay some royalties. At least WoW isn't as blatant as the cartoon portrayed with the obvious ways to kill the monster.

Family Guy - Wow, this is probably one of the funniest Family Guys I have ever seen. Stewie laid it on sooo thick and even Lois got in some good jabs. The bit about the change in voice pitch was pretty good as well. Sometimes there is a little bit of that going on with some people I know.

The War at Home - It has an emo chick and some funny "bedroom" issues. The mom is hot too.

It was sort of a "what would Mike Girard like to laugh at" kind of night on Fox. Zune.net looks interesting as well. It was a nice way to complete a weekend that was packed with about 15 hours worth of Star Wars. I need to get out more.

Just couldn't get enough

When I left Hampton Roads, I thought I would be done with large bridges over water. I had to traverse this beast this morning. My knuckles are still white.

The suicide hotline signs at the top of the bridge were rather entertaining though.

Cinemax is running the taunts

So today is the big day, they are running all 6 movies back to back. I'm enjoying the Phantom Menace and then I'm like..."there are pieces missing" and I realize it.

It's in freaking full screen!! Talk about getting pwned. If it's one thing that I learned at Casa de Heuer, wide screen >>> full screen.

The extended pod race was pretty darn cool, they should have included everything in the first place. It makes his win seem more gratifying and less random.

So I have picked up a bit of the Diplomacy by email bug. I know, I'm about 5-6 years too late, but a bunch of friends and I have started playing regularly. We play gunboat.

This is my 2nd game. The first one I was Russia and Turkey and I made a good deal and we were dominating when the game broke up and this one started (too many people went AWOL).

In this game, I agreed to stay out of GAL and Austria would help me into RUM then in CON. This is a snapshot of Spring 1902.



Everything was going well. I continued to press for Norway and was planning on helping Germany into Norway for them giving me Sweden. Then this happened -

Heroes - 11/6

Wow...nothing like some free advertising for YouTube (I'm sorry Brad, that totally sucked, if I was working on it, I would have had the kid say "I'm soo putting this up on vsocial.com). Clearly the radiation is bad and we have no backup, but let's go in the room anyway.

Heroes - 10/30

This week's episode was kinda lackluster.

I do like how they are starting to answer questions and link things up, rather than just taking the Lost approach (asking more questions, never resolving anything).

What...they aren't her real parents?!?!?! Who knew.

BTW - I kicked the flu sqware in the nits. I'm back to feeling ok and will probably go to work tomorrow. Girard 1 Flu 0.

I woke up this morning feeling like crap. I drank a lot of gatorade on sunday, so I thought it was just from overhydrating. I went to work and got through some big meeting that we were having, but didn't last past lunch. I went home and puked. I felt fine afterwards, but I passed out and when I woke up, I puked again.

If this happens a 3rd time, I'm going to urgent care and no, I didn't get my flu shot because every year that I get a flu shot, I get the flu.
I feel like crap.

I know where I'll be at midnight on the 10th

Right in front of my TV in my roomfor like 13 hours or so. And I am going to enjoy every minute of it. Even the podrace.

do you know what that is? If you have been to Europe, then you might know. It's a Kinderegg. It's an egg shaped, hollow chocolate piece. In the middle, encased in a plastic ball, is a toy. Usually it's some elaborate toy that has like a million working parts that is cool when finally built or sometimes it's a mini statue (like a smurf). I got the mini statue kind, it was a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde figurine.

I went to a place for lunch where I had a double bratwurst and some pommes frittes. This is probably the best place that I have been to since I left Germany. I may go back for some lebkuchen.

So this is my top 10 movies. "MY" top 10 movies. Not the top 10 movies of all time or IMDB's top 10 movies. These are movies that I will watch over and over in the same sitting and never get tired of them. If you came up to me and asked me to watch one of these movies, I would almost 100% of the time say "YES"! A lot of these movies will have some things in common (as you might have seen already with my list).

10 Top Gun (1986, Tom Cruise) - "I feel the need....the need for speed!" This is probably the tops on my list to watch immediately after installing a surround sound system. This movie is chocked full of action and great quotable lines. The characters are developed and the casting is good. Kelly McGillis is hot.

9 Usual Suspects (1995, Kevin Spacey) - "In English, please?" This movie has a great story and a twist ending. I will not ruin it here for those that haven't seen it yet. I loved the entire cast of this movie and it was a real joy to watch. You have to watch this a minimum of 3 times, I highly suggest the first two times be back to back.

8 Blazing Saddles (1974, Mel Brooks) - "Excuse me while I whip this out." I have my dad to thank for getting me to watch this film. There were several times during this movie that I thought I was going to die from laughter. There are sooo many un-politically correct jokes in this movie, it's freaking hilarious.

7 Hudson Hawk (1991, Bruce Willis) - "Long ago, the Duke of Milan commissioned a little known artist to erect a Mammoth statue of a horse. The time was 1481. The artist was Leonardo da Vinci. The guy on the donkey's just a guy on a donkey." I get so much crap for having this movie in my top 10. I absolutely love this movie. They keep track of time by singing songs, how freaking cool is that. So many good lines. "bunny...ball ball."

6 Varsity Blues (1999, Ron Lester) - "You got to be the dumbest smart kid I know." Growing up in Montana, I can relate to most of this stuff from high school. This is a feel good story and moves me emotionally. The montages are excellent as well, very stereotypical.

5 Transformers: The Movie (1986, Peter Cullen) - "They're in our way!" "Wrong, they're our way in!!" I remember watching this movie as a kid and it was bad back then because it had curse words in it. I absolutely love this soundtrack and play it often on my iPod. Stan Bush is the man.

4 Rounders (1998, Matt Damon) - "It hurts doesn't it? Your hopes dashed, your dreams down the toilet. And your fate is sitting right besides you." There was a point in my life when I was watching this movie at least 4 times a week. Generally accepted as THE poker movie. Lots of drama and great lines. I think the acting was excellent and a great story.

3 Ocean's Eleven (2001, George Clooney) - "Off the top of my head, I'd say you're looking at a Boeski, a Jim Brown, a Miss Daisy, two Jethros and a Leon Spinks, not to mention the biggest Ella Fitzgerald ever! " A great heist flick. Plenty of action and good lines. I think the casting was spot on and this movie made me think that the Bellagio could really be robbed.

2 My Blue Heaven (2001, Steve Martin) - "What is the difference between a pregnant woman and a lightbulb?" I'm surprised I don't have more Steve Martin movies on my top 100. I love this movie..a lot. It has a ton of quotable lines and the acting is great. The jokes are funny and the premise is solid. oh...you can unscrew a lightbulb.

1 The Fifth Element (1997, Bruce Willis) - "Give me the cash!" In my honest opinion, this is probably the best movie ever made. "Yeah, multipass, she knows it's a multipass. Leeloo Dallas. This is my wife." This movie has everything that I look for in a great movie, one-liners, action, comedy, good acting, funny actors, good visuals. "What was that honey? It was BAD! It had no fire, no energy, no nothing! So tomorrow from 5 to 7 will you PLEASE act like you have more than a two word vocabulary. It must be green." Did I mention that this movie is infinitely quotable?


Well there you have it, my top 100 movies. The list is pinned to the inside of my cubicle wall (right next to Ackbar warning me about the situation) and every now and then someone will stop by and ask what it is and I tell them and we have a conversation about the list. It's good clean fun, you should try making a list.

Heroes - Week 4

Sooo...is Hiro from the alternate 1985 where Biff owns the casino? Or maybe he's from San Dimas, where Wyld Stallyns rulz!


The episode was good and probably one of the best so far. I'm really enjoying this show.

Movies 11-20

20 Fight Club (1999, Brad Pitt) - This movie was actually pretty thougth provoking rather than just guys beating up other guys. I didn't figure it out until the big hints started happening.

19 Armageddon (1998, Liv Tyler) - This is a feel good movie with great action and a fabulous soundtrack. There are a fair number of 1-liners as well.

18 Bull Durham (1988, Kevin Costner) - Probably the best baseball movie...EVAR!

17 Starship Troopers (1997, Casper Van Dien) - This movie is chocked full of action, nekkid scenes, more action, cool one liners, even more action. It's a shame this movie doesn't get more respect than it does.

16 Office Space (1999, Ron Livingston) - I lived this for about 6-8 months this year. It made me appreciate the movie that much more.

15 Star Wars (1977, Harrison Ford) - It's probably a crime that this isn't higher. This movie played an incredible role in my choice of careers.

14 Full Metal Jacket (1987, R. Lee Ermey) - "How tall are you son?"

13 Fast and the Furious (2001, Paul Walker) - I like to drive and I like to drive fast. I remember back in the day (end of high school) where we would do stupid things like drag race and things of that sort. I wish I could have been a stunt driver for this movie.

12 12 Monkeys (1995, Bruce Willis) - Marnie doesn't let me watch this more frequently than every 2 months or so. It gets the voices in my head all riled up.

11 GI JOE the Movie (1985, Peter Cullen) - Lots of action, good quotable lines and a full length movie of my favorite cartoon as a kid.

You will have to wait until next week to see the top 20 movie list. I know, you are heartbroken. This weekend I will be in Sin City walking my little sister down the aisle. I bought a pretty pimp sport coat.

Movies 21-30

30 Aliens (1986, Sigourney Weaver) - I liked this one best out of the series of movies. There was a lot more badasses and hardware in this one. It also didn't drag out...constantly like the first one did.

29 Bad Boys (1995, Will Smith) - Lots of action, great 1-liners and an absolutely awesome soundtrack. I also think that these guys are good actors, but that's just me.

28 Shawshank Redemption (1994, Tim Robbins) - "These walls are kind of funny. First you hate 'em, then you get used to 'em. Enough time passes, gets so you depend on them. That's institutionalized. They send you here for life, that's exactly what they take. The part that counts, anyways."

27 Beverly Hills Cop 2 (1987, Eddie Murphy) - I think this one is just that much better than the first. Better jokes, more action, funnier lines. I really enjoyed the first one and this one is above that. I also liked how they made references to the first one.

26 Back to School (1986, Rodney Dangerfield) - I'm a Dangerfield fan, but strangely Caddyshack didn't make it. I think this movie is hilarious and it has Journey music and that's nothing but a bonus for me.

25 Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000, Nicholas Cage) - This movie made me think that boosting cars was really that easy. There were numerous cool car chase scenes and a vast array of quality cars.

24 History of the World Part 1 (1998, Mel Brooks) - My biggest knock here is that they never made History of the World Part 2.

23 Demolition Man (1993, Sly Stallone) - My favorite genre is post apocolyptic. This movie has that, lots of action, good one liners, and Dennis Leary. I mean c'mon, who doesn't know how to use the three shells. What seems to be your boggle?

22 Strictly Ballroom (1992, Paul Mercurio) - I don't know if this movie counts as a musical, but it's here anyway. This movie had an amazing soundtrack and after each time I want it, I want to do nothing but dance.

21 The Rock (1996, Sean Connery) - "Your "best"! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and f*ck the prom queen."

Movies 31-40

40 The Breakfast Club (1985, Anthony Michael Hall) - A fair representation of the "clique-ness" of high school life. Plus, who doesn't like the Brat Pack.

39 Dukes of Hazzard (2005, Jessica Simpson) - Now, I'm going to let you in on a little secret, I watched the Dukes of Hazzard as a kid...A LOT. I absolutely loved the show. A couple years ago, Catherine Bach was at ComiCon and I thought he was still hot...older, but still hot. I laughed at this movie and I thought they did a pretty damn good casting job.

38 Jurassic Park (1993, Sam Neill) - Dinosaurs, a lot of them and they are life like. I don't think I need to say much more about this.

37 The Big Lebowski (1998, Jeff Bridges) - I solely blame Joe Alread for this.

36 Predator (1987, Ahnold) - Another Arnold action flick. There was a lot of cool hardware in this film and a lot of badasses. I mean Carl Weathers was supposed to be the pencil pushing desk jockey and he was still a badass. The Predator was a cool villain as well. Also, the one liners were abundant.

35 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975, Jack Nicholson) - "If Mr. McMurphy doesn't want to take his medication orally, I'm sure we can arrange that he can have it some other way. But I don't think that he would like it."

34 Die Hard 2 (1990, Bruce Willis) - Did I mention that I absolutely love this series? There are so many quotable lines from this movie. Plenty of action and cool explosions.

33 Empire Strikes Back (1980, Frank Oz) - Holy Crap, Vader is his father?!?!?!?!?!

32 Ferris Buehler's Day Off (1986, Matthew Broderick) - "Incredible! One of the worst performances of my career and they never doubted it for a second."

31 Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981, Harrison Ford) - Another series of movies that I thoroughly enjoy. This is another movie that is pretty quotable. Harrison Ford is a good actor.

Movies 41-50

50 Matrix (1999, Keanu Reeves) - One of the benchmarks in special effects and I thoroughly enjoyed the story line. There were plenty of great lines from this movie.

49 Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982, Burt Reynolds) - I remember watching this as a kid and then when I found out that Marnie liked Dolly Parton it was one of the things we had in common when we first met. This is another musical on my movie list, I don't know what that means. I enjoy singing along to these songs, especially when Marnie and I do our rendition of Sneaking Around.

48 Conan the Destroyer (1984, Ahnold) - I liked this one better than the Barbarian. I thought there was more action and I was vested in the characters more. When I was younger, I was scared of the horned demon.

47 Major League (1989, Charlie Sheen) - A fun and fanciful baseball movie. The only thing that would have made this movie better was if it was about the Mets.

46 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989, Harrison Ford) - "It tells me that goose-stepping morons like yourself should try reading books instead of burning them."

45 The Karate Kid (1984, Ralph Macchio) - C'mon, who didn't want to be Daniel LaRusso.

44 Spaceballs (1987, Mel Brooks) - I heard they made a spoof based on Spaceballs and they got Harrison Ford to comprise Bill Pulman's role.

43 Ghostbusters (1984, Bill Murray) - The first movie I can remember where I made sure I had the wide screen version.

42 Weekend at Bernies (1989, Andrew McCarthy) - This could probably be lower, but I find this movie hilarious, especially with the way they try to prop him up and make him look alive.

41 Rambo - First Blood Part II (1985, Sly Stallone) - A great action flick. Stuff blows up. He beats have the Vietcon with a compound bow and a hunting knife. John J Rambo is a badass.

Heroes - Week 3

I'm still pretty hooked. I loved the episode. The only thing wearing on me is the artist on crack thing. What I'm not getting tired of spotting is the emblem.

My Theories -

- I think that Sylar's powers come from the people he kills. His power is to absorb their powers.

- I think that Sylar and the black guy in the bar are one in the same.

- The girl with the son of the scientist is in cahoots with Sylar.


I think I'm hooked for the long haul. I will tell you that I will be disappointed if these people are actually the bad guys and Sylar is the good guy trying to keep them away from NY because they are responsible for the nuclear attack. But that is very glass is half empty of me...which seems to be an overriding theme for me lately.

Love/Hate - 10/9/06

HATE -

I hate the perforated open mechanism on the shells and cheese box. They tell you to push thumb in there and it'll make the box easier to open. In my experience, I have only found that "added feature" only to cause me more thumb pain than to actually get the box open any easier.


LOVE -

When you talk to someone about something random, and then at the end of the message they comment how they like a recent (group of) posts on your blog. Sometimes I worry that no one reads my blog anymore, especially considering there is some animosity from a couple of my former co-workers from the Company. I consider them friends, but evidently they don't share the same thoughts.

Movies 51-60

60 Big (1988, Tom Hanks) - Yea, that's pretty much my everyday job. Seriously though, this was a great story and good acting and the movie came together pretty well.

59 A Night at the Roxbury (1998, Chris Katan) - This movie used to be in my top 10, but since I have seen some pretty good movies so this has slipped a bunch. It's still on my top 100, I just don't think it warrants being put higher. And who do you think it was....Emilio Estevez, the Mighty Duck Man.

58 Total Recall (1990, Ahnold) - This movie was a bit confusing, but it was a great SciFi flick. Get yo ass too Maws.

57 Color of Money (1986, Paul Newman) - Everything I ever needed to know about hustling, I learned from this movie and White Men Can't Jump. I'm a better man because of it too.

56 Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (2004, John Cho) - I thought this movie was going to be stupid. It was stupid...and AMAZING at the same time. I mean c'mon, it's got Doogie Howser in it, how it could it not be amazing.

55 Blade (1998, Wesley Snipes) - I thought this movie was amazing before I learned it was a comic book. Lots of cool gadgets, gross scenes and cool flex scenes. I am a fan of the whole series.

54 Big Trouble in Little China (1986, Kurt Russell) - "Like I told my last wife, I said, "Honey, I never drive faster than I can see, and besides... it's all in the reflexes.""

53 Goonies (1985, Sean Astin) - I would tell you why I like this movie, but first you have to do the Truffle Shuffle.

52 Commando (1985, Ahnold) - Another blow 'em up type movie that I enjoy. Did you see the arsenal that he's carrying on his back when he hits the island? Totally could happen in real life too.

51 Robocop (1987, Peter Weller) - "Dead or alive, you're coming with me! "

Movies 61-70

70 Urban Cowboy (1980, John Travolta) - This is a Marnie and I movie. We both enjoy this movie and I love watching it with her.

69 Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989, Keanu Reeves) - "69 dudes!"

68 Rocky (1976, Sylvester Stallone) - The only Rocky movie to make my list. I liked this one over the other ones the most. "Adrian!"

67 Beverly Hills Cop (1984, Eddie Murphy) - I really like this whole trilogy. Eddie Murphy is a funny mofo and there was a whole lot of good acting in this flick.

66 Back to the Future II (1989, Michael J. Fox) - This is the only BTF on my list. I liked this one better than the other 2 because I like futuristicy type movies. Plus, how could you not understand the alternate 1985.

65 Men in Black (1997, Will Smith) - Good clean fun. Cool gadgets, good one-liners, good soundtrack. This movie is just fun.

64 Se7en (1995, Brad Pitt) - "Tell me what's in the box!!!"

63 Mallrats (1995, Kevin Smith) - "What, like in the back seat of a Volkswagon?"

62 Fellowship of the Ring (2001, elijah wood) - The only lord of the rings movie on my list. I enjoyed this one more than the other 2. I guess I'm just not as big of a Tolken fan as some.

61 Independence Day (1996, Bill Pullman) - This movie should probably be higher. I think this is one of two movies that I have cried at. The speech is just that moving. The rest of the movie is well done as well. Plenty of one-liners, storylines that suck you in, futuristicy cool stuff. It has it all.

My Movies - 80-71

80 Super Mario Bros. (1993, Bob Hoskins) - There were a lot of funny/great things about this movie that I enjoyed. The top one for me was the casting, I think they did an excellent job. Plus, this was a better video game <---> movie attempt than Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.

79 Moulin Rouge (2001, Ewan McGregor) - Another musical. This had a lot of good tunes and the acting was good IMO.

78 Star Trek: Generations (1992, William Shatner) - The two best Starfleet captains in one movie? How could this not be your favorite Trek movie of all time? Denny Crane!

77 American Pie (1999, Jason Biggs) - A fun flick that "went there". The pie screwing scene is still a classic.

76 Coming to America (1988, Eddie Murphy) - Where else would you look for a bride for a prince than in Queens. This movie was very funny.

75 Die Hard (1988, Bruce Willis) - I could argue that this is the best action flick ever. Not the one I enjoyed the most, but pretty much the best ever. Catchy one liners, many explosions, it has it all.

74 Clerks (1994, Kevin Smith) - ....in a row?

73 Return of the Jedi (1983, Ewoks) - The 3rd movie in the classic trilogy and the lowest ranked. There has already been a lot said about Star Wars.

72 WarGames (1983, Ally Sheedy) - A better "computer" movie than Hackers in my opinion. Would you like to play a game?

71 Mission Impossible (1996, Tom Cruise) - I don't share the same hatred for Tom Cruise as others do, I think he gave a good acting performance. It was a good action/mystery movie and I like the property.

My Movies - 90-81

90 Grease (1978, Stockard Channing) - This is probably the 2nd oldest movie on my list. Marnie loves this movie and I have grown to love it as well. I like the songs/dancing/general badassness of the movie.

89 Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975, Tim Curry) - Ok, I lied, I have a few 70s movies. Again, another "musical". I like this movie for several reasons, none include me liking to where women's clothing. I was able to see this on the big screen and I did have my bag of goodies.

88 Con Air (1997, Nicholas Cage) - An action flick that I enjoy. Has a lot of big names in it and I feel that each actor plays their character well...right down to O'brien.

87 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005, Mos Def) - I would write here why I liked the movie, but you probably wouldn't care anyway.

86 Mr. Baseball (1992, Tom Selleck) - This is probably the single biggest reason why I call people "chief".

85 Cruel Intentions (1999, Sarah Michelle Gellar) - This movie is twisted in a naughty, voyeur way. Also, my first viewing of a big screen girl/girl kiss. That's hot!

84 Dogma (1999, Kevin Smith) - I'm not even religious and I enjoyed this movie. Renewed my fondness for Candygirl by New Edition. I try to request that everytime I go to a strip club.

83 Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974, Gunnar Hansen) - I have a problem with scary movies. I have since started to break that fear, this was the first big step I took in my adult life. I would like to thank Evan and Kyle for that.

82 Beetlejuice (1988, Michael Keaton) - "Don't mind her. She's still upset because somebody dropped a house on her sister."

81 Rush Hour (1998, Chris Tucker) - Probably Chris Tucker's breakout movie (I don't count Friday). Lots and lots of great one-liners. "Do you understand the words that are commin' out of my mouth?"

100 The Mummy (1999, Brendan Frasier) - This movie has some good late 90s special effects that I dig. I also think that Brendan Frasier isn't as terrible an actor as some people think.

99 Roll Bounce (2005, Bow Wow) - I know what you are thinking, but if you know me, you know that I like up tempo/dance music. This movie is chocked full of it and it has a story that makes you feel. I really wanted to strap on a pair of rollerskates after this movie. Not blades....skates.

98 A View to a Kill (1985, Roger Moore) - This has fallen a couple spots on my top 100. This is the first Bond film that I saw and I have enjoyed it ever since. I think Christopher Walken is a pimp.

97 The Running Man (1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger) - I have quite a few Arnold movies on my top 100 list. I also love post-apocolyptic stories. This fits into both categories. Some say this is too close to Total Recall. I think they are pretty different, I mean c'mon, one of them takes place on Mars!

96 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The Movie (1990, the Turtles) - I was a big fan of the Turtles back in the day. I remember, back when I was younger, they closed down the BX to stock for the christmas rush. I was with my mom and we were shopping for christmas, but so were a bunch of other people. When the doors opened, I rushed and got 2 big stuffed Turtles (which were a hot item that year). The other ladies that were looking for them weren't very happy that I snagged 2.

95 Romeo + Juliet (1996, Leonardo DiCaprio) - This came out the year that I graduated from high school. I am a fan of the style that this movie was done in.

94 Alien³ (1992, Sigourney Weaver) - Most people didn't like this one. I think Charles Dutton did a good job and despite it being a narrow place to shoot a movie (prison planet) I thought they did a good job.

93 S.W.A.T. (2003, Collin Farrell) - I like Collin and Samuel L. Jackson. Both were good actors in this movie and I was a fan of the action.

92 Wild Wild West (1999, Will Smith) - Cool gadgets + Will Smith + Kenneth Branagh + half naked Salma Hayek = a fun little movie that I enjoy watching.

91 Forrest Gump (1994, Tom Hanks) - I liked the traveling through history and the story being told was interesting to me. I think Tom Hanks did a good job and the explanation of some of the cool little things (like the smiley face t-shirt) are neat.

Ok...I gave into the peer pressure and watched this week's episode.

The show is pretty amazing. I didn't see last week's episode, but I have the same feelings the first time I saw my first episode of Alias and 24.

Updated Movie List

First and foremost, a thanks goes out to Treevor for getting me energized to update my list. His has looked pretty nice thus far.

Today we are going to start with the ones that didn't quite make the top 100 list (either not making it straight up or were on it and got knocked off).

- Back to the Future - This movie was pretty high on my list and it has fallen off. I haven't seen it for awhile and I guess I just lost my love for it.

- Star Trek: First Contact - This was my favorite Star Trek Movie until I started watching all of them for my previous job. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy this movie, but not enough to beat out 100 other movies that I like. There is still a single Star Trek movie on my list.

- The Wizard of Oz - This is an older movie and sometimes I have issues watching older movies. Maybe they seem to drag to me or maybe they aren't as "up to date" for me. This one previously held a spot because I was in a theatrical portrayal of this movie...I played the Tin Man. Some people may find humor in that.

- Walking Tall/The Rundown - I have watched these movies a couple times recently and have enjoyed them. The probably should be on my top 100 list, but I couldn't justify them beating anything else out. The Rock isn't a terrible actor and the action sequences are pretty cool (especially the club scene in the Rundown).

- Swingers - A cult classic that almost made it. This one didn't fair as well as the Big Lebowski did, which has since moved up on my list.

- Episode I/II/III - I liked these movies. I looked past what other people thought were flaws and enjoyed the movies for what I thought they were. An updated/modernized versions of classics that had to appeal to a younger crowd to get them interested in the property. That being said, they still didn't crack the top 100 unfortunately, Episode I was close.

Cecilia got the boot tonite. Jonathan and Yul were able to sway caoboi and the dreds chick. This has been a pretty good season so far. The previews promised something about a game changing event...not sure what that was. The teams look pretty well balanced, maybe Yul's team is slightly weaker.

Nothing Sweeter

I would say, that in this industry, there is nothing sweeter than holding real cards in your hands after the first set has been made. It has a very "this is real" feeling to it, especially after working on projects that never see the light of day.

Goings On

It's been tough to blog lately. I am pretty busy at work and have been playing WoW more than usual as well. Here are some random thoughts -

- I get to write some art requests again. This is something that I rather enjoy. I sometimes have difficulty visualizing things in my head and keeping a consistent image and this exercise regularly is helping with that. Not to mention I get to get some of my friends' characters into the game.

- PING: Tom. The season premier of Gilmore Girls is on tonite on the CW

- I'm going home to visit this weekend.

- I miss working with Brad Defruiter.

- Only 3 more Fridays until my little sister gets married. Yay for a trip to Vegas to ... see the family.

He's good, Yul see!

Yul is a P I M P. He gets stuck on Exile island for winning and the 2nd episode in he finds the immunity. This kid is smart and he's got the ability physically. I know it's late, but he's my horse.

I feel bad for Billy, he's a simpleton, but whatever. Christina is next on that tribe.

Shnibblets

- Saw Assault on Precinct 13 a couple nights ago. I think it was a good movie. There was strong character development and it made me like the characters.

- Thinking about going back to Uther and bringing my 60 NE Druid. It will be rough going from a PVP server to a carebear server, but there are more options for end game raiding....and more importantly, I will get to roll with my friends from the old skool.

- I hope that I do better this week in football than I did last week. I lost to a guy that started Dante Stallworth. More than half of the road teams won last week. Stupid parity.

- There are some entry level positions at my new company. If you are interested in breaking into the industry, this is probably your best bet. Check out the career center at www.ude.com.

- Gencon Socal is going to be a blast.

Harvey is scary

So, with my badass new cable box, I'm able to get all the movie channels. I happened to see that Donnie Darko was coming on and a certain PhD happens to have this movie ranked rather highly on his top 100 movie list, so I figured I had to watch it.

I went into this thinking that it was going to be sort of like a Memento-esque type movie (meaning, it has a unique plot outline, camera angles, .... just something unique about the film I guess). I was not disappointed.

I don't want to go into details about the movie too much, because well, I wasn't told about it and I was pleasantly surprised.

Once again, Evan knows his stuff and I bow to him and his knowledge. If it wasn't for him, I doubt I would have watched Donnie Darko or Memento.

Horrible Night...

So the air mattress isn't working out, which is why I'm posting this at 330am. I can't get to sleep and I think it might be leaking air somewhere. I can't really pump it up because the pump is super loud.

The Dolphins lost. Yes Heath Miller was out of bounds and the officials should have seen the flag. They stopped Pittsburgh on the 1 yard line the previous drive, no reason to be believe they couldn't do it again. Culpepper was unimpressive in his start.

I tried to do Jailbreak last night and my connection went to crap. Of course the rest of the night it was fine except for like 5 minutes of the escort quest. I got disconnected. I waiting for a GM for nearly 2 hours. The GM said that due to failing the quest by disconnection, he/she couldn't help me. It would have to be escalated to the specialists in order to get the quest completed in my log and that I could just complete the quest again. I asked for it to be escalated and he/she told me that they couldn't help me with that. I asked again to have it escalated to maybe a supervisor and I was told that if I had any feedback, I was to send it to the wowgmfeedback-us email address. I asked again and it was clear that the GM had severed communication because I got the spam of "if you have an issue, please open a ticket". Lousy customer service, IMO.

More Fantasy Football

I think this may be the best team that I have ever drafted in a fantasy football league...ever. It's an 8 person team, I had pick #2.

Almost 7 hours to a little over 5

Switched out the vehicles and am going with the Mitsubishi Galant to see if it can handle the hills of North County a bit better. I shave almost 2 hours off the drive.

I went 2-3 in the actual matches that I played at the GP. One of my wins was against Andre and it was a great match. Both of us recovered from different mana screws during the match. It was well fought and I squeeked it out. I was rusty and probably kept some hands that I shouldn't have (Land, bounce land, signet). It was good to see everyone.

On the way back, I was going about 88 in cruise control and blew past an Arizona Highway Patrolman. I was lucky, he didn't give chase. Then it came to just outside of San Diego. At the Dome Valley exit just before those nasty hills, I pick up a silver Pontiac that seems to want to play some cat and mouse. We go about 80-90 in the hills, going back and forth. I emerge at the front on the last down turn before it starts to get into the residential area. I look at my rearview and the Pontiac is getting pulled over by a CHP. I guess he lost in more ways than one. teehee.

Karma is gonna kick my ass for that last comment, I'll probably get cancer again.

I wanted to apologize to B.Webb. I missed his party, but well, I love you man, but not more than...you know what.
