Brian Garrison!!!

Holy crap!

So, my company's volunteer/judge program has started up some Facebook groups and I joined them, etc. I never expected to get a friend invite from none other than Brian Garrison. I haven't seen this kid in years. He was a good friend of mine back in the SWCCG days. I lost contact with him when he moved to DC to become a politician. This man is good times.

Here is a tournament report of his from back in the day. Here is another tournament report, this time from Enrique. I love reading these old reports, here's to Bravo 14!

More movies

We got Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back and I Know Who Killed Me. Jay and Silent Bob are still pretty funny. It's not as funny as I remember it, but then again, I'm 30 years old. There was a lot of skimpy dressed Lindsay Lohan in this movie. It was kind of a mind twist. I'm not sure if it was as mind twisty as Memento, probably not. I don't think this movie is as bad as people say it was, however, it does draaaag pretty bad in parts. There are a lot of pan and scan shots of things like porches, random scenery. I don't mind the long drawn out strip club scenes though.

The movie selections are getting a might thin. I think it's time to just start renting stuff that I would never dream about renting. It's a good thing it's Tuesday, New Movie Day! Going to definitely get Doomsday.

Big Love

Marnie and I tore through the first season of Big Love. It was an interesting look at polygamy. I'm not sure if I'm for or against it. I'm pretty tolerant of people's lifestyles as long as they don't affect me. There is a ton of Bill Paxton nakedness in this show. We are going to start on the second season, the end of the first season's cliffhanger was pretty good. I also so two discs for Jericho second season. I hope it doesn't slump, I read some of the brief episode recaps on the back. I have a feeling it might "heroes" on me in the second season.

I got Hostel. I have already seen it and Marnie was watching it with me. We got up to the achilles part and she couldn't take it. She said that it was just gore without a solid plot. She says that's probably why she was able to tolerate Saw a bit more. She could see the justification in Saw, but Hostel was just brutal violence.

We got Transamerica. It had Felicity Huffman as a male going through the transition to become a female. It was an interesting movie. I think she won some awards for it. We have Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back for tonite.

We are tearing through these movies/shows, but I am disappointed in Blockbuster. They don't have Grandma's Boy, Dude Where's my Car, and I haven't been able to get 28 Days for about 5 days now.

Which United States?

Done with the series. All i have to say is WoW. I am a fan and will do my part to see that it gets on the air. I have to say the finale was good and I noticed who the military guy was right off the back. I love the "new flag". I was able to steer clear of any spoilers and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the flag (similarly to what I pulled off for Ezri Dax).

Marnie is starting on Big Love. We also took in Gone Baby Gone and Dragon Wars. I was not impressed by Dragon Wars whatsoever. Oh well.

Jericho

I'm a fan. I love me the post apocolyplse. I don't know if I could survive, but I know that Marnie and I would do an awesome job trying. Don't know where we would go, probably head east. Anyway, finishing up disk 4. My favorite characters are Jake and Hawkins.

Rolling along...

Marnie said Lars was meh and I really like Kingdom.

Marnie accidently got disc three of Weeds (it was in the disc 2 case), so she wasn't too happy about it being spoiled. I am starting on Jericho. I love me a disaster series.

In and Out

Smokin' Aces was what I thought it would be and I enjoyed it. I was really glad that they weren't afraid to kill Ben Affleck. Marnie said she liked Penelope. Not an awesome movie or anything, but decent.

New movies - The Kingdom and Lars and the Real Girl

2 more movies

Marnie watched Georgia Rules. Then we both watched Children of Men. It was more artsy than I would have wanted. Oh well

Next two are Weeds Season 3 and Smokin' Aces.

2 at a time

I have always disliked Blockbuster. They would charge outrageous amounts to rents movies. They would send you to collections for late fees. It was just a hassle all around. They started competing with Netflix and their value add was that you could return it to the store and get another movie AND get the next movie on your list too. Well, you could only do that like once a month. So let me tell you I was skeptical when they tried to sell Marnie and I on the latest deal.

$30 for 30 days of 2 at a time rentals. We pay $30 and we get two movies at a time from the store. As soon as you are done with them, bring them back, don't drop them off, go pick out two more and then hand the clerk all four. No money, no ID, nothing needed. In theory, we were told we didn't have to even wait in line, because if there was a line, we could go to the person checking in the movies. The clerk upsold us when we went to rent Saw IV. Yep, he got us. So the gauntlet has been thrown, how many movies can we watch between July 19th and August 19th.

First 4 movies were PS I love you, Mama's Boy, Saw IV, and Right at the Door. Can you guess which 2 I picked out? I love me a disaster movie too. It was a good cheap, apoloclyptic movie with a cool twist.

I want to play a game

First off, I want to thank Evan and Kyle. They "Clockwork Orange"d me into watching scary movies. I also want to thank my sister Heather, for giving me someone to talk to about these types of movies. I enjoy our conversations. However, the biggest thanks goes to Marnie. She has had issues in the past with scary movies (she couldn't watch the LOTR movies because of the Uruks/Orcs). She sat down and watched all three of these movies with me. She had a couple nightmares, but I am very proud of her for making it through all three of them.
Saw
- This was a good intro into the brand. I had a couple issues with the bouncing back and forth, but the puzzle was awesome. I have also become a huge fan of gore porn. Started with Texas Chainsaw Massacre, moved to Cabin Fever (i think that's the name of it), and then it was on to Hostel. I thought that Hostel was both gore porn and a bit of comedy, especially the second one.
Saw II
- Here is my thoughts about Saw II - Alien:Aliens::Saw:SawII. I think that both of the first movies might have been a little slow, but the sequals were just non-stop action and the plot felt forced. I loved the twist at the end of this one a lot. When the safe cracked...jeez, I certainly did no see that coming. Nor the big reveal.
Saw III
- SPOILERS, if you haven't seen it, don't read - I didn't care as much for this one. I thought that it was very conceited. The cinematography was very very dark, even more so than the previous ones. I didn't care for the infinite shadows and sometimes black screens. I think it worked in the first one with the room/lights, I think that it didn't in this one. I thought that everything non-jigsaw was haphazard and the interaction with the secondary protaganist was forced...a lot. We were supposed to care, but then we weren't, but then we were. I was confused. I think that I would have been absolutely, 100% disappointed with this movie if it wasn't for the last three minutes. I think those 3 minutes saved the movie and I had a sense of fulfillment from them. I hope that Saw IV ties up some loose ends (other than the cliffhanger, which I have grown to enjoy from this brand). I don't know who the blond is in his visions. What would have happened if the test was passed?
