The Door to a Whole New World

Playtest room door

Picture of Gollum shouting - This guy used to have a little cartoon bubble saying "Rotate out Fellowship Block!!!". Some people didn't like that very much.

Karate Man - This guy is one bad motha. I mean he has a 1000 ATK/1000 DEF. How could that not be good.

Kamala - She is indeed the perfect mate. I mean c'mon, have you seen famke janssen from that episdoe of TNG?

Telepathic Alien Kidnappers - Duh, they are looking to kidnap the telepathic alien.

Bill Ferny - Mr. Ferny has a price tag of $9.00 on him. No sleeve, just a price tag slapped on him. Of course he's worth $9.

Tosk - When he came out he was the best personnel in the entire second edition game.

Smeagol - He is the Stary Grymasnik. This is the polish version of the promo card that was given out. He has a defect on the upper half where the card template is washed out and it looks like Smeagol is looking at the defect, really concerned look too.

Pote Snitkin - This guy is a pimp. Nuff Said.

Lord of the Rings TCG flyer - It was the original flier given out at origins 2001. Not many of these around.

Jabba the Hutt - See Pote Snitkin

The Balrog, Durins Bane - this was the promo version given out a long time ago. It used to have an apple sticker on it, sadly, someone peeled it off.

The One Ring - The original version of the One Ring back from the Alpha testing of the game. The one that made it to print looks much better.

Grishnakh - This is the playtest version of him from the very first vrsion. One of the lines said "Grishnakh may not take wounds." Just can't do it, no ifs, ands, or buts, just can't take wounds. He was deemed broken and shelved.

That's it, a little window into some of the things that I look at day in and day out that are cool....at least to me. Sadly I took those down today.

what about the spongebob sticker?

I also am curious why they're gone. Also, why was Tosk the best personnel in 2E?

Exactly, I would have thought it was Garak or The Viceroy... =)

there's a little more backstory here. tossk was KEVIN's favorite card...and also deemed (by me) to be 'the best personnel ever.' take that to mean whatever you want. Pote Snitkin is there because of the way Brian Fred always used to say 'pote' (it sounded like 'poouutt'). The Balrog is up there 'cause one day BK jr. and i were looking at Scrye, roundabout the spring of '02...and it said 'Balrog - $5.' we both looked over at the tray of Balrogs and laughed.
Grishnakh is (was, evidently) up there for several reasons: 1) grishnakh is just slightly more fun to say than shagrat. 2) sandy wible made this guy legendary during the first TT playtest weekend by exerting him for just about everything. we could only kill him by playing Servant of the Secret Fire. 3) it's a damned shame that the set had to be completely re-done halfway through because noone knew if those silly orcs were from mordor or isengard. so grishnakh was immortalized on 'the door.' The One Ring I found one day while cleaning (something, it seems, that only I was able to do in that room) the floor behind the computer table. It looks weird, and it's still just a piece of paper in a sleeve. One day, when we were beginning work on .hack//enemy (actually, it was the day Reynolds and I showed .hack to management), some card samples of yu-gi-oh and pokemon showed up in the room. i was mystified by all those ridiculous yu-gi-oh card names like 'Rabbit Up In Jar' or 'Mysteriously Rope' or whatever. The 'Karate Man' was a nice blend of ridiculous and classy, and I was on a bit of an 'afro' kick after drawing afros on Walex Blissex (thank you, TJ, for your inspiration), so up went the Karate Man. Sadly, he was the last addition to the door. I also put up that big picture of Frodo right in the middle...and that was probably the first or second week i worked there. just thought it was kind of fitting.

Yea, I knew I didnt' know enough history to do this when I started it. I feel bad about only telling like 1/4 of the story.

I had to take them down because Accounting is moving into that room and they didn't want them up there.

The question though - will you put them back up in your room?

Anonymous... Snider??

Anyway there's cards and stuff but my god Famke Janssen is hot as Jean Grey. And she can beat me up with the same special technique she used on Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye.
